An adverb in French is a word that modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb. They can provide information about how, when, where, how often, or why something happens. Adverbs are invariable in French, meaning that they do not change form according to number or gender.
There are many different types of adverbs in French, but some of the most common include:

How to form adverbs in French
Many French adverbs are formed by adding the suffix -ment to the feminine singular form of an adjective. For example:

Adjective: rapide (fast)
Adverb: rapidement (quickly)
Adjective: poli (polite)
Adverb: poliment (politely)
However, there are also some French adverbs that end in other suffixes, such as:
- -ément (ex. fréquemment, heureusement)
- -ement (ex. lentement, gentiment)
- -amment (ex. suffisamment, prudemment)
- -ement (ex. méchamment, énormément)
And there are also some French adverbs that do not end in any suffix, such as:
- aujourd'hui (today)
- demain (tomorrow)
- hier (yesterday)
- ici (here)
- là (there)
How to use adverbs in French
Adverbs in French can be placed before or after the word they modify, depending on the type of adverb.
- Adverbs of manner are usually placed after the verb they modify. For example:
Il parle lentement. (He speaks slowly.)
Je mange rapidement. (I eat quickly.)
- Adverbs of place and time can be placed either before or after the word they modify. For example:
Il habite à Paris. (He lives in Paris.)
Je vais maintenant. (I am going now.)
Je l'ai vu hier. (I saw him yesterday.)
Demain, je vais travailler. (Tomorrow, I am going to work.)
